This was the most I've enjoyed a new Doctor Who episode in over a decade.

Great review. I also liked the more intense, high-stakes serious nature of this story (and it was good to have Steven Moffat back on board)! Not a perfect episode (the ending was a bit twee for my tastes), but 7/10 is a fair score.

5/10 is being very generous for Space Babies. I couldn't keep watching it past the first ten minutes it was such garbage writing. It's hard to believe this was even written by RTD. Either he had an intern (or AI) write this thing or he had a ghost writer when he was showrunner before because even his worst episodes from his first run looked like Pulitzer Prize material compared to this. The word vomit you mentioned did it for me. The whole beginning was just so much exposition. Being that this was meant to be an introduction for new Who fans like you mentioned it should have left all that material mysterious to keep new viewers wanting to learn more about the Doctor. Think back on how well Eccleston's intro was written. Suspense right at the beginning, then right into action, then a pause but with mystery, nothing being just fed to Rose. You don't really know who or what the Doctor is but through ACTION you learn he has knowledge of things most people don't, you learn he can read and entire book in seconds, and you learn he doesn't think like a normal person. Rose's curiosity matched the audiences; she was fascinated by the Doctor and wanted to learn more just like the audience. The scene where she's following him as he heads to his Tardis and he stops to "explain" who he is and then just describes how he can feel the Earth spinning and flying through the universe, that scene still gives me chills. Space Babies just made me want to vomit and turn the tv off. I'll give it 2/10 and that's only for Ncuti and Millie who are both quite good. Good acting can't make up for garbage writing though.

This story was required after the first 2. It was pure one on one DRAMA, that tested thier acting and believability and overall connection together. This is what I've been missing. Less like stuff and Disney silliness and abit more tension, suspense, action, dialogue ect. DEPTH.💙

I pretty much agree with everything you said. It's nice to see that RTD has evolved from farting aliens to farting space stations.

I think the only people watching Who at this point are YT reviewers.

The word vomit as you say is he doesn't have that trauma waying him down anymore as 14 has to deal with that for him, he is free in that way!

I think you answered your own question - the info dump about the Doctor's background seemed very much aimed at bringing new viewers up to speed. (I guess one could also say that Ncuti's Doctor also seems to have a very open and friendly personality compared to some of his previous incarnations - but yes, too much info upfront!).

Am currently watching the series but I was hooked on the theme song the first time I heard it.

Everyone knows that A is for "Are you my mummy?", D is for "DOCTAAAAH!", "DONNAAAAH!" or "Don't blink", G is for "Gallifrey stands" M is for "Modern art!", O is for "Oh, for God's sake!" My grandmother watches a lot of murder mystery shows, and I don't think I'll forget this intro, even if I've never seen this show.

UPDATE: I did a rewatch of The Church on Ruby Road, and I enjoyed it a lot more a second time! 💙💙

I agree that this episode was a mixed bag. It was a fun episode, and Ncuti and Millie were great, but there was too much left unexplained about the goblins. For example, were they actually aliens? How did they time travel? And the singing scene was strange - and too implausible that the Doctor and Ruby were able to come up with perfect lyrics on the spot like that.

I actually fell asleep during this episode. It was just boring. The Goblin Song was cringe garbage, and yet again we got woke crap shoved down our throats.

My favorite Doctor actor is David Tennant.

This was pretty terrible. I’m definitely done with Doctor Who and it is really sad as I’ve been a fan for the last 30 years.

to use a football analogy, a group of great players doesn't mean a great team, that reminded me of this episode, so much greatness but something felt lacking and can't put my finger on it, Ncuti and Millie were excellent and it didn't feel like a first outing for them, felt very 13/Clara after they were together for a few eps. which is never a bad thing.

I actually really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next season more than I previously was.

Just saw a clip of Richard Franklin during the end song. Sad timing learning about his death today.

Apart from Christmas Invasion RTD specials were hideously bad ... My ranking BEST- Christmas Carol, Last Christmas, The Snowmen, Husbands of River Song, Time of the Doctor, Twice Upon A Time Christmas Invasion, Doctor Mysterio, the Next Doctor, Runaway Bride, The doctor the widow and the wardrobe, voysge of the dsmned abdbwiest of all end of time

A Christmas Carol is my all-time favourite, I watch it every Christmas morning. Voyage ranks pretty highly for me too though. Dr. Mysterio is actually a guilty pleasure episode of mine.

I also started watching Doctor Who on PBS in the late 70’s when I was very young. When I first started watching they were playing Jon Pertwee stories on a loop until they finally started playing Tom Baker on a loop. Baker & Pertwee have always been my favorites growing up but now I’d have to add Troughton as well. I follow the classic series 1963-89 but I do like the new series. Also I’ve grown to like that ‘96 TV movie. I watched it on tv when it first was shown and I hated it lol

Doctor Who does have a lot of fans in USA/Canada. The BBC needs to realize this lol the blu ray sets we get are generic bare bones versions of the cool sets they get in UK.
